Fitness is thriving at Urban Pathways K-5 College Charter School! Children are exposed to exercise programming encompassing Yoga, games, relaxation techniques and healthy eating habits for a well-rounded fitness experience.
Yoga classes combine mind and body work in a way that enhances learning, heath and individual student accountability for good life-style choices. Exposure to Yoga postures not only helps students to be physically fit; students also become more confident and aware of self and others. UPK5CCS’s physical education experience also includes games designed to improve and continually develop both gross and fine motor skills. Healthy movement is also supported by good nutrition habits. Students are allowed to experiment with various fruits, vegetables and snacks on a daily basis.
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health and much more. Urban Pathways College Charter School K-5 is proud to be the only school in Pennsylvania to have received the Nutribullet University healthy eating program.
NutriBullet University is a 90-day healthy eating program designed to help school-aged children improve their diets by increasing their daily intake of vegetables and fruits. On each morning of the program, students use NutriBullet nutrient extractors to make nutritious vegetable and fruit-based NutriBlast smoothies for themselves in addition to receiving information about the health benefits of each ingredient.
By engaging directly with the foods they eat, students get a better sense of how nutrition directly affects their mood, energy, and overall well being, while developing healthy habits that will stay with them for years to come.
Grades 4 & 5 get to enjoy these delicious and nutritious blasts each day for three months!
The UP family of staff, parents and students participated in the Pittsburgh Kids of Steel Marathon which is an overall youth exercise and nutrition program run by the Dick’s Sporting Goods and Pittsburgh Marathon. The program promotes lifelong, healthy eating habits and importance of an active lifestyle.
