TITLE: Chief Executive Officer 

DEPARTMENT: Administration 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university with PA School Administrator certification
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds

 

REPORTS TO: Board of Trustees 

 

SUPERVISES: Principal 

Teaching Staff Other Professional Staff All Non-Professional Staff Other resource and service personnel while working in the school 

JOB GOAL: The CEO serves as the school’s chief executive officer, providing overall leadership and direction for Urban Pathways K-5 College Charter School. They will be responsible for ensuring that the public charter schools’ academic programs and operations are successful and faithful to the terms of their charters. The CEO is responsible for both sustaining and improving the culture of high academic excellence, operational efficiency/effectiveness, charter compliance, and continuous quality improvement at UPK5CCS. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Employee shall serve as CEO of the Charter School and report to the Board, which shall endeavor to evaluate his performance and leadership annually. Employee shall perform and discharge well and faithfully such duties and responsibilities as a CEO of the Charter School as may be assigned to Employee from time to time by the Board and as needed, expected and assumed in order to keep the School operating in a positive climate both fiscally and functionally. Employee shall serve as a leader and as a positive example at all times in carrying out his duties and responsibilities. 

Employee is expected to devote his expertise, time and effort to developing and implementing the vision and mission of the School. Employee shall also be responsible for the further creation, development and improvement of the School. Employee shall devote all his work and time, ability and attention to the performance of his employment under this Agreement. Employee shall notify the Board in writing and receive written approval from the Board before Employee engages in any other business or commercial duties or pursuits, including, but not limited to, 

providing consultant services, serving in directorships or officer positions of other companies or organization, or ownership other than personal investments. 

It is further agreed that Employee shall attend all meetings of the Board and serve as an ex- officio board member (with no vote) except where the Board instructs Employee not to attend. Employee is expected to prepare for all Board meetings in advance. Preparation shall include, but is not limited to, developing an agenda, appropriate advertisement of the Board meeting and distribution of materials to all Board members in a timely fashion to ensure sufficient time for preparation. Employee shall meet periodically with the Board president or designee to discuss future meeting agenda, to assess the School’s progress, to assist with Board activities and to plan for the coordination of communication efforts for the Board. 

Employee shall communicate and advocate to the community, staff and students the philosophy and goals established by the Board. Additionally, Employee shall communicate fully, timely and openly to the Board information regarding staffing, student progress, program assessment, school climate and other important information regarding the School as perceived by students, staff, parents and community residents. 

It is further agreed that Employee will perform all other duties and responsibilities as determined, assigned or approved by the Board.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional and technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, parents and the general public. 

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Demonstrates awareness of all school requirements and policies. Ability to use a personal computer and related software.
